Kakuta: Senior Chelsea players great with me

24.11.09 | tribalfootball.com

Gael Kakuta says his Premiership debut for Chelsea has been a long time coming.

The Frenchman enjoyed an impressive cameo in Chelsea's 4-0 thumping of Wolves on the weekend.

"I have been waiting so long for it and I am really happy, I enjoyed playing the game," Kakuta told Chelsea TV.

"I wanted to score so much but I lost focus when I shot. It was good, I enjoyed playing the game and all the players were behind me, helping me and talking to me, so that was good for me."

For Kakuta, it signalled the end of a frustrating period in which he had been banned from playing. After a serious injury in February had kept him out until pre-season, it was a relief to be out on the pitch in Chelsea blue.

He added: "My fitness is good, because of the ban I have been out for months, but I have worked double sessions every day and I feel good.
"It has been a little bit like pre-season, because when the boys finished I was still in, working in the afternoons.

"[In the Premier League] the game is much quicker, you have more choice when you play, you can play one touch, two touch, so it is much better."

Chelsea Coach Carlo Ancelotti: We Do Not Fear Porto

Italian sets sights on finishing top of Group D...

Chelsea boss Carlo Ancelotti insists his side will play without fear when they face Porto in the Champions League on Wednesday night.
The last meeting between the two teams ended in a 1-0 victory for the Blues, and with Chelsea currently cruising in the Premier League, Ancelotti has every right to be confident.

Nevertheless, he still believes the Portuguese champions remain a stern test and will not be underestimating his opponents.

"Porto have a very good team and coach but while we respect them, we have no fear," said Ancelotti, as quoted by The Press Association.

The former Milan coach highlighted the importance of achieving a good result in Portugal if Chelsea are to finish this phase of the competition on top of Group D.

"I think tomorrow is important not only for first place, but we will play against a strong team," he added.

"They did well in the last game at Stamford Bridge. We want to put our personality and quality on the pitch tomorrow night."

"We want to arrive at first place in the group and it is a very good test because Porto are a very good team."

Chelsea Have Nothing To Worry About - Carlo Ancelotti

'Carletto' not bothered by Eastlands defeat...

Chelsea manager Carlo Ancelotti believes that his side have nothing to worry about, despite their 2-1 loss to Manchester City on Saturday.

Goals from Emmanuel Adebayor and Carlos Tevez undid the Blues, with a crucial save by Shay Given from a Frank Lampard spot-kick ensuring that Mark Hughes' side took away all three points.

"We don't have any reason to be worried," Ancelotti is quoted by Sporting Life as saying.

"We are doing well at the moment but today [Saturday] it was difficult because Manchester City played very well.

"But we are still top of the league and we have two more points than Manchester United so we do not need anything extra."

The former Milan boss insisted that his side did not get emotionally carried away during the game, even though they racked up some six yellow cards.

"We did not lose control," Ancelotti added.

"We had to go one against one at the back near the end and in that situation it is easy to pick up a yellow card."

Chelsea retain the lead in the Premier League, but the distance between their closest competitors, Manchester United, has now been reduced to two points.

Carlo Ancelotti Blames Petr Cech For Manchester City's Winner Against Chelsea

Keeper could have done more to keep out Carlos Tevez's free-kick…

Chelsea manager Carlo Ancelotti believes that goalkeeper Petr Cech was at fault for Manchester City's winner on Saturday evening.

The west Londoners were beaten 2-1 at Eastlands, surrendering a one-goal lead in the process, with midfielder Frank Lampard missing a late chance to equalise from the penalty spot.

But Ancelotti insists that he has every faith in Cech's ability to bounce back from the error, and return to the form he has shown for the majority of the season so far.

"This season, over the whole campaign so far, Petr has done very very well. I like him. He takes the responsibility and likes to come out and catch the ball in the box," the Italian said, according to The Daily Mirror.

"But if you ask me about the free-kick on Saturday, he could have done better.
"If the keeper stays in the right position, by the post, and the opposition player puts the ball over the wall and in, we have to congratulate him.

"It was not like that at City. But even a good goalkeeper can make a mistake sometimes."

And Ancelotti was also adamant that the Blues' set-piece problems had not returned.

"Against Manchester City we conceded a goal direct from a free-kick. In my view, set-pieces are different. You don't have to mark people on a free-kick, just put up a wall," he asserted.

"That's not a problem like set-pieces. It was different last game against Aston Villa. That was two corner kicks, they scored twice. The situation has changed since that match. Set-pieces, free-kicks, they're different."

Chelsea 2-2 APOEL Nicosia: Nenad Mirosavljevic Grabs Late Equaliser For Thrylos

Cypriots equalise late but still crash out of Europe...

Nenad Mirosavljevic came off the bench to score a late equaliser as APOEL Nicosia drew 2-2 with Chelsea at Stadium Bridge in the Champions League this evening. Despite gaining a point, APOEL have been eliminated from Europe, finishing bottom of Group D. Chelsea qualified as group winners.

APOEL started the brighter of the two sides, and Marcin Zewlakow opened the scoring with a tidy finish. Chelsea responded with two well-taken first half goals from Michael Essien and Didier Drogba as they went on to control the game. Chelsea looked comfortable but were stunned as Mirosavljevic equalised in the 87th minute.

APOEL worked a decent opportunity in the early stages, taking a free-kick just outside the penalty area the Cypriots slipped the ball in behind the Chelsea wall, who weren't wise to the movement from the visitors. APOEL pulled the ball back across the penalty area but didn't make the most of the chance and Chelsea managed to clear.

The Blues didn't heed this warning and were caught cold from a throw-in high on the left flank in the sixth minute. In a few touches APOEL broke free with Constantinos Charalambines attacking down the left. The midfielder cut the ball across to Zewlakow, who had made a darting run inside towards the penalty area. Chelsea tried desperately to scramble back and cover but Zewlakow was calm and slotted the ball past Champions League debutante Ross Turnbull and into the bottom right-hand corner: 1-0 to APOEL Nicosia.

Chelsea responded to the goal with a period of attacking pressure. Florent Malouda picked the ball up on the left, showing sharp footwork, he crossed to the front post where Joe Cole had drifted into space unmarked. The Englishman made good contact with his head and the ball zipped beyond Dionissis Chiotis at the near post into the back of the net. Cole peeled away in celebration only to spot the assistant referee had flagged him offside, the Chelsea midfield had strayed fractionally beyond the final man.

The pressure paid off for the Blues as they equalised in the 19th minute, Essien was the scorer. Malouda appeared to have been fouled just outside the left of the box but got to and continued play, he slipped the ball to Essien on his right and the Ghanian moved across the 18 yard box. Dummying his shot, Essien took it past his marker and unleased a stinging drive at the second time of asking, and the ball rocketed past the sprawling Chiotis and into the APOEL goal: 1-1.

Worryingly for Chelsea, it was the last meaningful action of the game for Essien as the Ghanian limped off the field minutes later with a suspected hamstring injury.

Chelsea hadn't even brought on their replacement Frank Lampard when they took the lead. Gael Kakuta brought the ball forward through the middle, holding onto possession before threading a well-timed pass to Yuri Zhirkov who had made a run into the left-hand side of the penalty area. The Russian winger took a touch and spotted Drogba's run towards the penalty spot. Zhirkov drilled the ball along the floor to the Ivorian and Drogba smashed the ball low into the bottom left-hand corner with a first time strike: 2-1 to Chelsea with 26 minutes played.

APOEL were forced to make a change of their own just after the 30 minute mark as Altin Haxhi pulled up with a hamstring injury. He was replaced by Marios Elia.

Chelsea nearly extended their lead in the 40th minute. Kakuta received the ball just inside the APOEL half, taking his first touch, the youngster turned away from his marker and slotted a wonderful through ball to Cole, who had made a run from deep on the left. Despite the precision and perfect weight of the pass, Cole failed to control properly with his first touch and the chance was wasted.

APOEL had a chance early in the second half to grab an equaliser, former Chelsea man Nuno Morais found himself outside the penalty area and elected to shoot. The Portuguese struck his attempt well and it deflected off a Chelsea defender as it arched towards Turnbull's bottom left-hand corner. Petr Cech's deputy managed to get down quickly and made a good save.

Chelsea began closed the game out, slowing down their attacking play and holding onto possession. Drogba was fouled 25 yards from goal and claimed the free-kick for himself. The Ivorian's eyes lit up as he went to strike the ball, but his attempt zipped past Chiotis' left-hand post in the APOEL goal.

The next real opening fell to Malouda after Cole made a slicking tackle to win back possession from APOEL. The French midfielder tried his luck from range, aiming for the 'keeper's left, but dragged his shot well wide of the target as the ball went out for a goal kick.

Chelsea looked to have scored a third in the final minutes of the game. The ball came into the area from a free-kick on the left, APOEL half-cleared and substitute Fabio Borini attempted an audacious over-head kick. The 18-year-old Italian forced a good save from the 'keeper and Terry smashed in the rebound from close range, but was flagged offside by the assistant.

John Obi Mikel then made a terrible error in midfield to present Mirosavljevic with the ball. The Serbian drove at the heart of the Chelsea defence and was one-on-one with Turnbull, making no mistake, the striker slotted the ball past the 'keeper to level the score: 2-2.

Despite a late surge, APOEL couldn't find the winner they needed to claim third place in the group and passage into the Europa League. Chelsea, for their part, will be disappointed to have conceded late but ultimately pleased to have won the group undefeated.
