Benitez: Liverpool job not on the line tonight

24.11.09 | tribalfootball.com

Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez has rubbished claims his job is on the line tonight.

The Reds need victory over Debrecen to keep their Champions League hopes alive.

Liverpool expect to have Glen Johnson and Daniel Agger fit after calf and head injuries, with skipper Steven Gerrard leading from the front in only his second start in more than a month.

Gerrard is no stranger to miracles himself, having masterminded Liverpool recovery acts in Istanbul, Marseille and at home against Olympiacos.

Benitez said: "If anyone can do it, Gerrard can. But the whole team believe it is possible."

The Spaniard was in a confident mood for his pre-match press conference where once again he was asked that if Liverpool fail to qualify, will that be the end of his Liverpool career. He laughed and responded: "No, I don't think so."

Carragher: No disaster if Liverpool fail in Champions League

24.11.09 | tribalfootball.com

Jamie Carragher insists it would be "no disaster" if Liverpool failed to qualify for the Champions League knockouts.

Liverpool face Debrecen tonight in a must-win game.

"We are desperate to get through, but I don’t think you could call it a disaster if we don’t," Carragher said. "Because we have done so well in recent seasons, people outside the club tend to take it a bit for granted that Liverpool will get into the knockout stages.

"But it isn’t easy. Manchester United didn’t make it a few years ago and Barcelona have had a couple of setbacks this season. They aren’t sure of getting through, either, so it shows how well we have done in the past."

Budapest win too late for Liverpool

Liverpool FC supplied the win they needed as a minimum requirement in Budapest, but their evening ended in misery as victory for ACF Fiorentina against Olympique Lyonnais knocked the Merseyside club out of the UEFA Champions League at the first hurdle.

Acute disappointment
The five-time European champions were too strong for Debreceni VSC en route to recording their second Group E success, both against the Hungarian titleholders, but the UEFA Europa League Round of 32 now beckons after Fiorentina overcame Lyon 1-0 to advance with their French opponents. Liverpool's disappointment is sure to be acute, though the damage was done before tonight's contest, which could hardly have started better for Rafael Benítez's men when David Ngog struck the only goal of the game from point-blank range after four minutes.

Perfect start
Missing the injured Fernando Torres for this must-win occasion, Liverpool's travelling supporters were asked to put faith in lone forward Ngog. The 20-year-old Frenchman does not enjoy the rarefied reputation of his Spanish colleague, yet it was he who settled any early nerves, leaping to flick past Vukašin Poleksić after Jamie Carragher had headed back across goal following a short corner. It was the third time in three home matches that Debrecen had conceded inside the first six minutes and they almost fell further behind when Dirk Kuyt plunged in vain to meet a Steven Gerrard cross.

Ngog chances
The visitors' monopoly on possession should perhaps have sparked a second goal, as Ngog fired straight at Poleksić following some bustling work from Kuyt. Finally, with 33 minutes gone, András Herczeg's team had a glimpse of their own at the target, but the promising Gergely Rudolf nodded wide and normal service was resumed when Ngog forced Poleksić to save impressively with a curling effort.

Gerrard threat
The news from Florence must have been dispiriting to Liverpool ears at the interval, yet they quickly settled back into their pattern of domination after the restart. Tangible chances proved harder to come by, however, though fit-again defender Norbert Mészáros had to be quick to block a Gerrard attempt and Poleksić then saved low down from the Reds' captain after his colleagues had worked the ball around from the ensuing corner.

Conviction evaporating
Lucas was next to try his luck with a glancing header too fine to find the net from Kuyt's cross, before a foraging Daniel Agger run allowed Gerrard to let fly a defiant strike from distance that fizzed over. Debrecen were certainly faring no better, despite the introduction of the lively Adamo Coulibaly, but any conviction looked to be slowly seeping out of the Premier League outfit, with the knowledge that this comfortable display could ultimately count for nothing.

Final games
They even began ceding opportunities in the closing minutes as both Coulibaly and Rudolf tested Pepe Reina, the duo seeking to post Debrecen's first point of the section. They will have one last chance away to Lyon on 6 December, when Liverpool will aim to exit the competition on a high at home against Fiorentina.

GERRARD: LET'S GO AND WIN EUROPA LEAGUE

Post  Soul_Eight on Tue Nov 24, 2009 7:25 pm

A fourth minute strike from David Ngog gave the Reds a 1-0 victory over Debrecen in Budapest - but it wasn't enough to save their Champions League status as Fiorentina beat Lyon in Italy.

While Gerrard accepts it is a blow to have bowed out of the tournament at the group stage, the captain is confident the season can still end in success for Rafael Benitez's side.

"The disappointing thing was having to rely on other teams going into tonight," said Gerrard.

"We've played fantastically well tonight and deserved the three points, so it's disappointing that we won't progress in the Champions League.

"You get what you deserve in this competition and the two late goals we conceded against Lyon have been crucial. But it's gone now - it's in the past and we've got to move on.

"We're in the Europa League and we'll go and try to win it.

"Tonight's performance was encouraging and we can build on that. We've got a lot of players coming back from injury so hopefully it's onwards and upwards from here."

The results mean Liverpool will drop down into the Europa League - a competition the Reds last won on a memorable night in Dortmund in 2001.

Asked if the players would find it difficult to pick themselves up to play in the tournament, Gerrard replied: "Of course because the main prize has gone.

"When you start the season, you want to stay in the Champions League as long as possible, so to be playing in the Europa League is disappointing.

"But we have to accept that, move on and go and try and win it.

lagu ni aku petik dari mymanutd.com... jgn mara aaaaaa.. ekekeke

Sampaikan Salam PADAN MUKA ku Padanya

Sampaikanlah salam PADAN MUKAku padanya
Walaupun ku menang namun ku terkeluar
Kerana badiku tiada akhirnya
Walaupun Benitik telah menghancurkannya

Sampaikanlah salam PADAN MUKAku padanya
Walaupun EPL hebat almariku masih kosong
Kerana ketiakku mewangi dan harum
Walau tercampak ke Euro Cup

( korus nyanyian Benitik)
Andaiku tiada, andaiku pejam mata
Biarku abadi, angan yang setia ini
Biarpun EPL jauh, sambutlah salamku
Kerana aku masih mencarimu
Tidak pernah aku memenangi dirimu

Olahan dari Lagu Allycat - Sampaikanlah salam
Tiada unsur2 ingin mencari untung hanya berlawak

REDS TO SIGN REAL MADRID SUPERSTAR

Post  Soul_Eight on Mon Nov 30, 2009 7:51 pm

MEDIA WATCH
Internet Report 12 November 2009

Real madrid playmaker Rafael Van der Vaart could be on his way to Premier League club Liverpool

Rafael van der Vaart has confirmed he will be leaving Spanish Giants Real Madrid in January and wants to move to another top European club, after rejecting a return to his old club Ajax.

Real Madrid will let the playmaker leave for £13million, which is roughly the amount they paid for him last season.

Real Madrid’s multi-million pound arrivals of Kaka, Cristiano Ronaldo, and Karim Benzema, has led Real needing to recoup some of their spending money.

Real’s summer spending spree put Rafael Van der Vaart a long way down Madrid’s pecking order.

Icelandic Midfielder Set to Join

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Sixteen year old midfielder Kristjan Gauti Emilsson is to join Liverpool in the first weeks of December, according to the Icelandic website fotbolti.net. The attacking midfielder who is already six feet four, currently plays for Icelandic champions FH Hafnarfjordur - he has already made his senior debut for them - had a trial at Melwood during which he impressed enough for Liverpool to make an offer. Last August there had been some rumours that Manchester United might be making a move for him whilst a host of clubs including Dutch giants Ajax were thought to be monitoring his progress.

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

The player himself hadn't been thinking of moving from Iceland just yet but couldn't turn down a club like Liverpool. "My plan was to remain at home for another year, but then this offer came I could not refuse it. There are excelent conditions there and I think I will be able to become a great footballer at the club."

"Kristjan is very promising player and very mature for his age," the Hafnarfjordur coach Heimir Gudjonsson said recently. "I took him with the team last winter and it is not often that you see sixteen-year boy who is as good as him."

"I believe that he will stand out. He gets good help from their parents and now gets three years to prove himself. I'm certain that he can meet all the demands of playing for Liverpool."
